Design Tour: Sobu in Oakland July 22, 2016
We focus a lot of our design tours on our favorite restaurants and shops in the San Francisco area but let’s not forget our creative counterpart to the east. Oakland is brimming with great design, art, furniture, and food. One must-see spot is a furniture and accessories store called Sobu.
The husband and wife team that own Sobu come from a background rich in the creative arts. Alessandro Latini is a furniture designer and former architect and Laleh Latini is a graphic designer and photographer. Their design backgrounds are evident in Sobu from the products they create to the layout and feel of the store. With a recent expansion and remodel, Sobu is worth an in-person browse. The tall bright walls add an abundant feel to the space and allow the natural light to pour in.
Most of the products at Sobu are designed in-house making them beautifully unique and impressively crafted. On our Sobu wishlist are the custom-made stone tripod stools, brass and copper light fixtures, as well as ceramic and glass accessories. Be sure to check out the handsome assortment of furniture, lighting, art, and design accessories at Sobu on 5451 College Ave in Oakland.
