You probably know that many big box decorating companies have insanely low prices. Did you know that they charge so little for the decorating service because their revenue model is based on affiliate links? When you buy the sofa they recommended from West Elm, the company earns a commission.
We think our edesign service is a fantastic deal – but it does cost a lot more than $169 per room! When you hire us, you are hiring experienced, trained interior design professionals who create custom designs for you. At Coddington Design, when we send you a shopping list, we are not earning any commission. This allows us the freedom to suggest furniture and decor from a wide range of online companies. We get to choose what works best for your style, space and budget without concern for earning a commission.
We developed our Curated Room service for busy professionals who want to save time and money but want high quality design that reflects their unique style. Perhaps you are overwhelmed by the number of options out there and you just want someone to tell you what to buy! We will tell you exactly what to buy, and where to put it.
- One (1) Design Discovery Call: we determine how we can curate your space.
- One (1) furniture plan of your Curated Room: personally emailed to you in 2-4 weeks
- Curated Room Design Plan: Ten (10) suggestions for items that you can purchase on your own, from unique websites and/or designer resources, personally selected for you by style and budget. Item suggestions will be given to you on a private Pinterest board. You will be given ONE option per item, up to 10 items, for one complete Curated Room design plan.
We can source additional items/options for you at $150 per item.
- One (1) hour of supplemental communication design time with your Interior Designer: ask follow-up questions about your Curated Room, discuss paint colors, finishes, window treatments, finishing touches like accessories and artwork placement, budget planning advice, etc. The one hour can be via text, email, or phone call. Your designer will keep track of time and let you know when you are approaching the end of your one hour.
- Custom spreadsheet and timeline for your room: organize all of your furniture selections, budget, and deliveries, and know when and how to order furniture, when to bring in the electrician, painter, etc.
Curated Room Design Process & FAQ’s
We are so happy you are considering working with Coddington Design! We believe clear communication and your direct involvement in the design are the cornerstones of a great working relationship. In that spirit, here are a few FAQ’s about the design process.
Process and Timeline
What is the difference between custom furniture and in-stock or retail furniture?
Custom furniture is built-to-order, which means it can often be sized to our specific needs, and we can choose our own finishes and fabrics. Custom furniture takes significantly longer to order and receive in your home, generally 10-18 weeks and sometimes longer.
With retail or in-stock furniture, the fabric has already been chosen by the store (you may have a few options to select from) and applied to the frame, and size and finish options are limited. We source retail furniture for you when you purchase the Curated Room. Please note that even in-stock items will usually take 1-3 weeks to arrive.
How are you able to figure out my style?
We are able to figure out your style in a combination of ways. Our Discovery Call together is so important. We ask very specific questions. We also have a client questionnaire that helps us learn how you use your space, what your goals are and what your expectations are. Have you taken our Style Quiz? It is a fun way to put a name to your look. We encourage you to share your Pinterest boards (of things you love) with us as well as images of your current rooms.
How long will my project take?
Our Curated Room design will be delivered to your inbox in approximately 4 weeks. After you approve and order your selections, your project completion date will be dependent on how quickly your items are delivered to you. Coddington Design does not order or manage your items for you. If you are on a tight timeline, we will do everything in our power to complete your design as quickly as possible, but please let us know at the beginning of the process.
How often will I get updates or hear from you?
We update you and ask for your feedback throughout the process. After we have your pinterest or style quiz likes, photos and measurements, your designer will check in with you and give you a progress update. (email, phone call, text, whatever you prefer.) When complete, your designer will send you all of the selections and documents you need. Remember, you have one hour of supplemental communication design time with your designer: Ask follow-up questions about your Curated Room, discuss paint colors, finishes, window treatments, finishing touches like accessories and artwork placement, budget planning advice, etc. Your designer will keep track of time and let you know when you are approaching the end of your one hour.
We love checking in and hearing your feedback. Also, if you refer us to a friend and they hire us, you will receive an additional hour of consultation time to use however you like!</p.
What if I don’t like what you design for me?
We promise not to take it personally! Please just tell us what you don’t like and why, and we will make it right. We will make up to three selection changes for you at no additional charge and do everything we can to get it perfect on the first try. It does take a little extra time at the beginning of the design process to get to know your taste but once we start sourcing you know you, your home and what your goals are. We pull everything together for you so you can see all of the pieces together. Your floor plan and selection sheets will give you a clear picture of what your finished space will look like before you buy.
Shipping, Delivery, Receiving
Why isn’t shipping or delivery included in my budget?
Coddington Design does not order your pieces for you, so we really do not have accurate estimates on shipping or delivery charges. With you placing your orders, you have complete control over your delivery times and budget.
Do I have to order everything all at once?
No, you don’t. That’s part of the beauty of the Curated Room. We encourage you to follow our guidelines on when to order pieces, just to make everything go smoother. For example, we will recommend you have the room painted and the new area rug ordered and installed before the sofa arrives.
How much should I budget for furniture?
While every project is different, after over a decade in business, we can give you an accurate estimate of what you will need to spend to achieve your desired outcome. We will also work with you to create and stick to a budget based on your project’s scope of work. We recommend you set aside $15,000 – $30,000+ per room
How do I keep track of my budget?
We will create a google sheet of your budget for you to maintain. You will do this by filling in the actual cost spent for each item. You can also track your shipping costs here. The budget will include furnishings separated by room.
What if I want more help outside of this one room?
Yes! We are happy to help you work on other parts of your home. For additional work, we suggest our Virtual Consultation service which is available for $195 per hour. We waive the 5hr minimum for current clients. Please read more about hourly here. It is a wonderful way to tackle any challenges you have with your home.
