The Rites of Spring
With spring cleaning comes the opportunity to be out with the old and in with the new (or new to you). But what are the best places to buy and sell luxury used furnishings online? Here are some of Coddington Design’s favorite outlets.
Chairish was the brainchild of Anna Brockway, a fashion executive, and her husband, Gregg, a technology entrepreneur. After moving, they faced the challenge of how to sell their nearly new furnishings that wouldn’t work in their new home. They created a platform that connects sellers and buyers, “Our mission is to help design lovers buy and sell chic furnishings in a beautiful, easy-to-use and super fun marketplace.” Recently Coddington Design saw this pair of Mid Century Swivel Slipper Chairs with Brass Bases by Milo Baughman (1923-2003) on the site. The classic American style is a favorite of Melanie’s who used the chair in her San Francisco Decorator Showcase room this year, the Unapologetically Pink Rosé Lounge.
Michael Bruno founded 1st Dibs at Paris’s legendary antique market, Marché Aux Puces, in 2001. The website became the global destination for those who must have ‘first dibs’ on treasures from around the world. We recently discovered this Guillerme et Chambron, dining table, oak, France, circa 1965 on the site. The extendable dining table is perfect for casual California dining. French designer duo Jacques Chambron (1914-2001) and Robert Guillerme (1913-1990) started their furniture company after being imprisoned by the Germans. Bonding over their shared love of design they called the business ‘Votre Maison’.
Another favorite design of Melanie’s is this Lane coffee table with an elegant curving kidney-shaped top. The wood base features an X-form stretcher with a gold leaf round medallion detail, complemented by the clear glass inset top. It’s both futuristic and mid-century. We found the table on Viyet, the design aficionado’s destination to buy and sell timeless furniture and accessories when it comes time to move, redecorate or Spring Clean!
