Palo Alto Home Renovation Part II: Home Office and Guest Quarters Designed to Inspire
Have you been keeping up with our Palo Alto Renovation? Last time, we revealed the refreshed main living areas, and now we’re diving into the transformation of the family room, home office, guest quarters, and powder bath.
In case you missed it…
This renovation is for long-time clients approaching their retirement years. With their kids now in college and their home in need of updates, they turned to us once again to create spaces that align with their evolving needs.
Reveal: Artful & Eclectic Family Room
Vibrant, inviting, and full of life. This family room strikes the perfect balance. The warm white walls let the bold artwork take center stage, while a natural wood sculpture adds a grounding, organic feel. The denim-hued sectional ties back to the home’s overall palette, and the patterned chair brings in that extra touch of fun.
We love a good pattern play, and this room nails it. Just the right amount of visual interest while still staying cozy and inviting. It’s the perfect spot for kicking back with family or just soaking in the vibes.
Moody & Sophisticated Home Office
With the kids grown and out of the house, it only made sense to transform the former playroom into a home office—sophisticated, practical, and full of personality to reflect our client’s love for color.
We painted the trim and built-ins a rich turquoise, giving the space a bold, moody vibe. Dark textured Roman shades add depth, while the ceiling wallpaper—our favorite place for wallpaper—draws the eye upward with its coordinating color and gold foil, adding just the right touch of light reflection.
A light wood desk and neutral patterned rug keep things grounded, and a cozy chaise lounge upholstered in a soft velvet blue is the perfect spot to relax between tasks. This is the kind of office that inspires both productivity and creativity. Win, win.
Neutral & Comfortable Guest Bedroom
Washed in light and airy tones, the guest room serves as a welcoming retreat for the couple’s adult children, visiting family, and close friends. Soft neutral textures, calming hues, and simple patterns evoke a restful ambiance, with each detail working together to create a truly relaxing atmosphere.
This serene vibe carries into the guest bath, where thoughtful choices continue to inspire comfort and calm…
Peaceful Guest Bathroom
Clean lines, rich texture, and a perfect blend of high-end materials — this is laid-back luxury at its finest. The walls may be neutral, but it’s all about the details here. Walnut cabinetry paired with brass hardware strikes the perfect balance between refined and relaxed. And when it comes to the natural stone…
Stunning. We selected Calacatta marble with bold veining that adds both elegance and character. Above, an Italian curved brass-framed mirror brings a touch of modern sophistication. Love! We selected textured glass scones to provide soft, ambient lighting — the perfect way to ease into the day or wind down in the evening. And to tie it all together? Earthy sage Zellige tiles from Clé Tiles add just enough texture and warmth.
The result is a peaceful, welcoming guest quarters that feels as luxurious as it looks. I’ll start packing now…
Radiant Powder Room
It might be the smallest room in the house, but the powder room is the place to make a statement. And we definitely did. A marble vanity keeps things timeless, while brass fixtures add warmth. But let’s talk about that ombre gold-leaf wallpaper. Swoon-worthy and radiant from every angle.
Adding to the glimmer, the sculptural round mirror framed in alabaster is art all on its own. To complement, we sourced custom-made textured glass sconces by RTO Lighting. Small room, big impact.
It’s Your Turn…
This renovation was all about evolving with our clients’ changing needs while staying true to their individual style. The updates not only made the home more functional but also highlighted their incredible art collection.
Feeling inspired and ready for a home that feels like you? Let’s make it happen.
Cheers,
Melanie
