The Georgian Home: Sneak Peek of a Piedmont Renovation

This dynamic lesbian couple knows how to make a statement, whether it’s in fashion or in their choice of homes. Their recent purchase of a stunning Georgian property in Piedmont was no exception. Sadly, the previous owners left it as a bland, colorless space. Boring.

Our clients, being anything but ordinary, turned to us to infuse their new-to-them home with vibrant hues and playful personality. And here’s the kicker: for the past few months, we’ve been designing their kitchen and four bathrooms entirely through our Designer on Demand service.

While this project is still in progress, I can’t resist sharing a sneak peek of the incredible concepts we’ve come up with. Can you guess which our clients chose?

The Vision: Georgian-Style Home Renovation

Drawing from the classic features of their Georgian-style home, we seamlessly integrated arches and intricate molding into the interior, capturing a timeless charm. To enhance the connection to the outdoors, we carefully curated a palette of nature-inspired hues and tones, bringing a sense of serenity indoors.

With these elements as our foundation, we were well on our way to striking the perfect balance of individuality and authenticity, creating a distinct, personal, and cohesive home.

Kitchen Design Concepts

In the kitchen, we curated some key design choices to breathe life into the space. Cabinets painted in Farrow & Ball’s Drop Cloth set the stage for a sophisticated backdrop, beautifully complementing the chic pendant light, thoughtfully selected faucet and hardware finishes, and elegant walnut flooring. And let’s not forget the soothing backsplash and noteworthy marble patterns that match these women’s impeccable taste.

Throughout it all, we’ve been fully “on demand,” supporting them with as much or little as they need — whether it’s furniture layouts, bathroom designs, or answering construction questions. We’ve got their back every step of the way.

Our Collaborative Design Process

Here’s a secret they won’t tell you on HGTV: designing your home isn’t a mystical process where the designer magically taps into your deepest desires and hands you a perfect masterpiece. Nope. It’s quite the opposite.

In fact, I founded Coddington Design on the belief that clients should be in control of the design. After all, it’s your home. Our design process is collaborative and let me tell you, it takes MANY renderings before nailing the perfect design combo…

Higher or shorter shelves? Light or dark countertops? In this case, we brought our clients through the iterative process, and guess what? These renderings were invaluable in helping them select their dream countertops. Any guesses? If you said the dark countertop, you’re right.

Kitchen Renderings

After our clients made the bold decision to go with dark counters, our next test was finding the perfect kitchen stools. Again, meet the design superheroes — kitchen renderings.

These helped our clients visualize every detail of their soon-to-be space, from the custom cabinetry with its intricate crown molding to the captivating industrial black pendants and the glazed ceramic tile backsplash. If these images look familiar to you, they should. Each element is inspired by our initial concept board.

On the right side of the kitchen, we merged functionality and comfort by designing a custom banquette along their bay window, complete with vibrant pillows and a sleek dining table — a cozy reading nook where all you need is a bottle of Pinot. With all this seating, these two are ready to work from home, connect over meals, or host memorable evenings with their favorite people.

So, which barstools did they select? You’ll have to wait to see…

What’s Next

This Piedmont kitchen upgrade had a domino effect, leading us to bid a not-so-fond farewell to the dreary paneling in the adjacent dining room. Of course, we dressed it up in a playful, nature-inspired wallpaper that we’ll share in the final reveal. We’re also redesigning several bedrooms and bathrooms to ensure every corner of their home is tailor-made.

This project is still under construction and our clients are enjoying the process of infusing their Georgian home with a vibrant personality. (Let’s be real, so are we.) Once the final transformation is complete, I’ll share it with you here first.

In the meantime, if you’re ready for your own renovation or home furnishing project, our Designer on Demand service may be the perfect fit for you. We’ll guide you through the design process, help you exactly when and where needed, and create a space that supports and excites you.

Cheers,
Melanie
