Modern Luxe Client Spills the Tea on Working with Taylor
One of our favorite pockets of the LA area to design in is a well known neighborhood, Sherman Oaks. It’s a great spot for the LA tech execs and celebrities as well, close to West LA and Studio City. The views and architecture do not disappoint. You can still find the “birdhouse” ranches built in the 40’s & 50’s here with the original dovecotes and diamond paned windows. They give the area a storybook feel in their updated condition.
We recently completed a beautiful modern luxe project for an amazing client in Sherman Oaks, transforming the space to get it ready to sell.
MODERN LUXE
Keeping the home light and open and exposing the amazing views was the main focus of our design along with resonating high end finishes. Wide plank bleached oak flooring throughout paired with a pale neutral palette accented with black appointments keep the focus on the amazing color outside.

What did Coddington Design do for you that you couldn’t have done yourself? (What were your struggles before you hired us?)
Well…I would have gone insane to be blunt 🙂
Coddington Design, specifically Taylor, helped me execute on my vision for the house. I had specific goals for the project that would have been very difficult to attain without the support of a talented designer.
I have come to realize that a good design is not just a matter of buying expensive materials or finishes. Rather, there is a logic, function and cohesiveness that when coupled with quality products makes for a good design. This was something I could not have done on my own and would have struggled.
With all the MANY decisions (small and big) that need to be made daily, I would have completely been paralyzed without Taylor’s help. She really kept me focused on the original design goals we established at the onset and stay on budget.
The lower level family room ceiling beams add architectural elegance to the space while not feeling heavy or intrusive. A beautiful, calming space.
How was working with a designer during COVID-19?
I was very nervous at first. I think what helped was that Taylor had a good sense of the project and we had some design elements banked i.e. Kitchen. The trust was there. Taylor worked really hard to help me through the decision making process despite the Covid challenges.
It’s all about the small details in the master bath. Check out the hardware on the vanity, the amazing wall tile and the hidden shower drain. This is a great example of how to transform a small bathroom into a luxurious retreat.
What was your favorite part of the process?
Solving design challenges and ultimately seeing things come together.
The exterior facade and landscape mirrors the clean interior and beautiful style. It feels right at home in Sherman Oaks.
